When we read Psalm 94, we are confronted with a stark reality: human systems often oppress the vulnerable, isolate those who are different, and boast about power built on the backs of others. The psalmist asks how long the wicked will triumph, calling out those who mistreat foreigners, widows, and the fatherless while claiming God doesn’t notice.
Yet, as the psalm reminds us, the God who fashioned the ear and formed the eye sees and hears everything. But divine justice doesn’t work like human revenge.
Exclusion vs. Support
There is a vast difference between creating a targeted space for healing and building a group to exclude others:
-
Healing Spaces: Support groups designed for those who have experienced specific traumas are built to lift people out of dark places and offer mutual understanding.
-
Exclusive Barriers: Groups formed out of fear or superiority seek to push others down, driven by the anxiety that someone different might succeed or belong.
God’s True Justice
Human justice often defaults to retaliation—putting people behind bars or pushing them out. God’s justice, however, unburdens us from past trauma and chains of anxiety, inviting us to live freely in the light. Divine love calls us to be inclusive, creating communities where everyone feels a sense of belonging and support as we grow together.
As we navigate our daily lives, we must ask ourselves: Are we closing our ears, or are we actively building a society that lifts everyone up?
