Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond Is Looking For The True
Adrian Dix a few weeks ago came in front of the cameras in a very disturb and angry way to announce that is was reported to him that a game was being played in Emergency Rooms in British Columbia. While Minster Dix would not share very many details about the hospitals or how the wrongdoers would be dealt with he did appoint, Mary Ellen Turpel Lafond to investigate and find the truth about what is going on the BC Healthcare System. On July 9 Mary Ellen has come back with how she wants to run the investigation. Turpel Lafond is not at this time directly connected to law enforcement so she cannot charge people with criminal offences. She promises to refer her finding to the proper authorities so justice can be served. She told stories from the past where Indigenous People were not allowed to see the doctor but were sent to the “Indian Doctor” or sent the veterinarian for medical care.
Turpel Lafond is building a team to gather information along with that her team will be building websites to gather stories from people who have witnessed racism in the healthcare system. She is determined to root out all racism because it has no place in a system that is supposed to be designed to help and care for all people. There is a promise that allegation and reports will not be ignored and will be dealt with. In the past multiple Indigenous organizations – including Métis Nation B.C. and the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres – called on the province to hold a public inquiry into Indigenous-specific racism in B.C.
