When Justin Trudeau put Canada on emergency lockdown because of COVID19 he introduced the Canada Emergency Relief Benefit or the CERB to help the average working person. These people had non-essential jobs the could not be by tele-community. Rather than allowing them to have homes and lives be put at risk our Prime Minister took actions and come up with a relief program. Today he announced that by the end of August the CERB is going to be commuted into Employment Insurance (EI). Along with this Trudeau is promising to find a way to modernize EI so that it matches what today’s workforce looks like. This means that contractors and gig worker might find themselves illegible for benefits. These people found it very difficult to find relief between contracts. If the Federal Government makes the right changes to programs many people might find it easier to pay bills and make rent. Entrepreneurs and small business owner could find relief during this time of a killer virus when work is hard to find and clients may be few.
